Alien and invasive terrestrial vertebrate species on Corfu, Ionian Islands, Greece

The Ionian Island of Corfu is rich in both species and habitats, but also under pressure from heavy tourism, substantial water abstraction, increased development, all which have caused loss fragmentation habitats. In addition, invasive alien (IAS) constitute a global problem may cause problems for indigenous wildlife, especially on islands. To be able to successfully control IAS it important identify them, report their status, raise awareness as early possible. Here we present the status ten reported Corfu, four are considered invasive, coypu (Myocastor coypus), raccoon (Procyon lotor), Siberian chipmunk (Tamias sibiricus), American pond slider (Trachemys scripta). Measures required outlined by EU Working Group Invasive Alien Species briefly discussed.
